Sample Weekly Toddler Meal Plan
This sample meal plan with simple toddler meal ideas gives us a good structure for the week, so we can plan our time better. Additionally, it supports us to make good healthy choices at the grocery store. The meals are easy to prep and delicious!
Most importantly, this plan saves us tons of time. First, starting with deciding what to feed our toddler every day. That can be pretty exhausting and time consuming, especially when we want to feed him something healthy that he will actually eat. Then, cooking…Hours and hours of cooking and then this little person at the table just says yucky. So, we kept it simple and made our lives easier and sweeter.
Summer or winter, I try to limit cooking to max 60 minutes a day all together. Above all, 1 hour cooking time adds up to 365 hours in a year. Imagine, if you cook longer every day. To illustrate how bad it gets for me as a mom, I will just add to the cooking time, feeding time and cleaning afterwards. Huh. Sadly, that's more time than the time I work out in a year. And I need to work out more! Time is currency and it irrevocably disappears with every moment. That's something, we need to teach our kids and remind ourselves especially when are battle to feed them.
Adjust The Meal Plan To Your Needs
So, this toddler meal plan is our realistic one, as Aiden is a very active toddler. We've been using it since he turned 2, now he is 2 1/2. If your little one is moderately active, check out this examples of well-balanced meal plans appropriate for moderately active children.
Please note, that we generally take into account the Food and Nutrient Recommendations of AAFP, however we are not nutritionists. Nevertheless, we feed our little one as best as we can.
Our toddler meal plan should be used as an example how to create your own plan for your toddler. And of course, you can find all of the toddler meal recipes and try them all out here.
Recipes from our Toddler Meal Plan
Oatmeal recipes
Oatmeal is one of the best foods you can offer to your growing toddler. Whether they'll still love it if they turn into picky eaters some day is a different question. Our solution was always to blend it until it tastes super creamy and rich. We have three favourites
- Banana Oatmeal
- Honey Butter Oatmeal
- Banana Yogurt Oatmeal
The fruit faces still help that this healthy goodness is eaten with fun at breakfast.
Pancakes recipes
Our little one loves pancakes. In fact, he does them almost on his own. Here are the best pancakes recipes, that we use to variate our toddler meal plan:
- Apple Oatmeal Pancakes (without walnuts)
- Banana Oatmeal Pancakes
- Blueberry Oatmeal Pancakes
- Pumkin Oatmeal Pancakes
Soup recipes
- Salmon-Potato-Carrot-Soup
- Chicken Soup
- Meatball Soup
- Bean Soup
Dinner
- Chicken Risotto
- Beef, Red Kidney Beans and Corn Skillet
- Salmon Mac and Cheese
- 5-Min Homemade Mac and Cheese
Is it worth cooking for your toddler?
If you're wondering, whether or not it is worth the time and effort to cook for your little one, the answer is simple. Oh, yeah!
Scientific reseach shows that a great deal of the brain's ultimate structure and capacity is shaped early in life before the age of 3 years. About 80%. Among the factors that influence early brain development, the provision of optimal nutrition in the first 1000 days of life stands out. So, it's well worth to prepare healthy meals for our little ones to help them grow smart and healthy.
